Hameg Instruments GmbH

Hameg Instruments GmbH, originally founded in 1957 by Karl Hartmann as Hartmann Messgeräte (HAMEG), is a German manufacturer of electronic test and measurement instruments. The company is headquartered in Mainhausen, Germany, and has been a subsidiary of Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG since its acquisition in 2005. Hameg specializes in the development and production of a wide range of benchtop and handheld test equipment for engineers, technicians, and educational institutions. Its product portfolio includes analog and digital oscilloscopes, such as the HM series and the later HMO series; spectrum analyzers, including the HMS series; RF signal generators; arbitrary waveform generators; laboratory power supplies; and LCR meters. The company is particularly well-known for its affordable yet reliable oscilloscopes, which have been a mainstay in university laboratories and small-to-medium enterprises. Hameg instruments are designed with an emphasis on user-friendly operation, making them ideal for training and prototyping environments. Following the integration into Rohde & Schwarz, Hameg's product lines were gradually merged into the Rohde & Schwarz value instruments portfolio, though the brand retains a legacy reputation for quality entry-level test solutions. At its peak, Hameg held a strong position in the European mid-range test equipment market, competing with brands like Tektronix and Keysight in the education sector. Today, the Hameg name is remembered as a pioneer in bringing digital storage oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers to a wider audience at competitive price points.
